French Toast

The easiest way to make french toast is to slice up that fancy dinner bread you know is a little stale and probably about to start growing stuff.

This is one of the first recipes my mom gave me, and I still cook it at least once a month.

Then you beat eggs, milk, and vanilla extract together and pour it over the bread slices in a single layer in some sort of container you can close (9x13s work great for this). Sprinkle some brown sugar on top of the slices.

Leave it in the fridge overnight, then fry those eggy slices up the next morning in some butter and drizzle on some syrup for a decadent-sans-fuss breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 8-ish slices French or Italian bread, 1/2 inch thick minimum
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (oat milk works, too)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup-ish brown sugar
  • Syrup
